International Students

Health and Insurance
ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH SERVICES:
Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publiclyfunded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at http://www.moh.govt.nz.
ACCIDENT INSURANCE: The Accident Compensation Corporation
provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at http://www.acc.co.nz.
MEDICAL AND TRAVEL INSURANCE: International students must
have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. The Academy has a master policy with StudentSafe PTE, which meets the requirements of the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. You will be required to join this scheme or provide evidence that you have an appropriate alternative before leaving home. If you want to use a different insurance scheme please post, fax or email a copy of the policy and certificate in English to the Academy for approval before leaving home. Students who arrive without appropriate medical and travel insurance will be required to purchase cover with StudentSafe before completing enrolment.

StudentSafe provides you with an extra 31 days to cover your travel to and from New Zealand free of charge. Further information is available on www.studentsafe.co.nz.

Minimum requirements for medical and travel insurance cover:
1. Cover the full period from leaving home to returning home after completing studies, including any foreign travel during the study period.
2. $1 million minimum for sums insured and medical cover.
3. Repatriation and emergency evacuation costs.
4. Accompanying relative.
5. Personal effects.
6. Personal liability.
